I'm sure there are a few of you who have/use TV Tuners. I actually have two questions based on this knowledge but the 2nd one I'll save for later.

My first question is what methods do you use to transfer your raw video footage to .avi or whatever you guys use on your "official" bumps?

I just got meself one, so I'm still ironing out the "kinks"
I do Let's Plays now.

Well, I have a Hauppage WinTV tuner card. What I do is record with the WinTV software in MPGE2 (DVD Standard Play setting, to retain the quality) and either a) drop the file in Virtualdub and do the splitting/encoding there [this is normally with black and white cards, since most commercial fade outs and show fade ins are in black] or b) trim the bump with approximately 2 seconds of additional footage before and after (MPEG2 is very hard to split) in the raw MPEG2 format, encode the segment with AutoGK to XViD and then split the XViD file with the video splitter (I use AVI MPEG RM WMV Splitter by Boilsoft, really easy to use), which works perfectly if either the bump is or starts with an image or if the commercial end/show begin are not in black. Also, with black and white cards I use Virtualdub more than anything since AutoGK automatically crops the image, which doesn't work that well with the cards. A friend of mine told me I should record to raw .avi using Virtualdub but I prefer the WinTV method, mostly because Virtualdub can be a bit confusing at times. Hope that helps!
